Recurring Events

Every Monday at 7:45 am Debbie and her two wee ones will lead a moderate-paced run along Stevens Creek Trail from Sleeper Lane in Mountain View. Bring a jogging stroller for kids - parents will be running. We'll set goals to progress in pace and distance along Stevens Creek Trail. Debbie has much running experience and can share tips if you're just getting into running or have a race goal in mind.

Every Monday at 11 am Amy and her two wee ones will lead a hike and picnic at a different location in the South Bay/ Peninsula Region. Please read descriptions below/click through links on the calendar to know what baby transport works best.

Every Monday at 4:30 pm Pippa and little Ruth will lead a Toddler Trek. We'll encourage toddlers to walk and explore along the path around the Palo Alto Baylands Duck Pond, to the bridge at Lake Boronda at Foothills Park, or the path alongside the geese and pond at Shoreline Park. These Toddler Treks last about an hour at most. Younger children in strollers (any kind) or carriers, and pregnant moms welcome! See details below/through links in the calendar for more details.

Beginning in September, every Tuesday at 1:30 pm Megan and her little one will lead Stroller Hikes at Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Cupertino, or Los Altos Hills parks. All are designed with a play break at the beginning, middle, or end of the event. See details below/through links in the calendar for more details.

Resuming in September, every Wednesday at 9:30 am Lisa, Samuel, and little Shira will lead a hike/toddler bike outing at Rancho San Antonio in Cupertino/Los Altos Hills. Explore the matrix of trails out to the farm and creek, play on the logs, and visit the animals! Shira will be in a stroller or carrier, so parents wanting to carry their kids the same way are welcome. Samuel may ride his little bike on the wide, flat path, so toddlers that follow directions well can do the same. Any baby transport will work. Meet at the upper parking lot where model airplanes are flown (just past the entrance, turn right, then left into the first parking area uphill from the lower two). For more information or directions, see the Rancho San Antonio Page. Sorry, dogs not allowed. This hike is at least half shaded. If you're running late, call Lisa at 650-892-8678.

Thursday Afternoons at 4:30 pm, Debbie, little Max, and wee Holly will lead a Toddler Trek. We'll encourage the toddlers to walk for this 1 - 1.5 hour slow-paced hike, where we'll welcome breaks to explore nature, play, and snack. You are welcome to bring strollers or carriers if you think your child will get tired hiking. Younger children and babies, and pregnant moms welcome! See the specific details below or in the calendar for each event.

Friday Mornings at 9:30 am Melissa and Maxwell will lead a Stroller Hike at varying locations in Palo Alto, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, San Jose, or Campbell. See details or the calendar below for more information.

On the third Saturday of every month, at 10:30 am join Bike Buddies for a Family Friendly Bike Ride through downtown San Carlos. The ride will last up to an hour. For more information, see SanCarlosGreen.org's Website.

About once per month on a Saturday Jen S. leads Moonlit Hikes along Los Gatos Creek Trail from Vasona Park (Los Gatos) or at Harvey Bear Ranch/Coyote Lake in San Martin (by Morgan Hill/Gilroy). See the calendar or details below for more information.

Unique Events (Also click calendar for details on Recurring Events):

Monday, August 2nd at 9:45 am join Debbie and her two wee ones for a run from Bol Park in Palo Alto. Meet at Bol Park near the corner of Matadero Avenue and Laguna Avenue (on Laguna Avenue). Bring a jogging stroller for kids not wanting to run or for infants. The path is a wide, two-lane paved one. We'll encourage the running kids to tell us when to "go!" and run, and when to "stop!" and take walk breaks, in a sort of modified red-light/green-light/fartlek approach. The trail is a widely used multi-use path that was converted from an old railroad line - a little history here! Come visit the donkeys and chickens and see a piece of "old" Palo Alto; the donkeys here were used as inspiration for Donkey in Shrek. Meet at the playground in the middle of the park. For more information, see The Bol Park Webpage. Call Debbie at 650-776-1082 if you're running late.

Tuesday, August 3rd at 4:30 pm join Pippa and Ruth for a Toddler Trek at Shoreline Park in Mountain View/Palo Alto at 3070 N.Shoreline Blvd. We will be doing a short walk around the lake to the play structure. We'll see lots of birds, and boats on the lake. We will be encouraging the little ones to walk, but if you want to bring a stroller, any kind should work as the trail is paved. Follow Shoreline Blvd all the way to the end, enter the park by the kiosk, and follow the road all the way to the end following signs for Lakeside Cafe. Meet in the car park by the cafe. Sorry, no dogs allowed. For information about the park and directions, see The Shoreline Park Page and Mountain View's Shoreline Page. If you're running late, give Pippa a call at 510-621-7471.

Thursday, August 5th at 4:30 pm join Debbie, little Max, and wee Holly for a Toddler Trek at Crystal Springs along the Sawyer Camp Trail, West of San Mateo and Burlingame. This is an entirely paved trail (well, I doubt it if we'll make it to the short gravel section connecting to San Andreas Trail near mile 6) so all strollers work fine. Plenty of benches and port-o-potties along the way, and a nice picnic area with water near the 3.5 mile mark (if we make it that far). For information about the hike or directions, see Crystal Springs Page. Meet at the benches just inside the gate at Crystal Springs Rd and Syline Blvd. If you're running late, call Debbie at 650-776-1082.

Friday, August 6th at 9:45 am Jenn W. and little Scott will lead at Rancho San Antonio in Cupertino/Los Altos Hills. Meet at the main lower parking lot at the water fountain in front of the bathrooms(just past the entrance, turn right, then follow the road until it ends). For more information or directions, see the Rancho San Antonio Page. Sorry, dogs not allowed. The hike will be to the farm and back - about 2 miles, with a stop at the farm for a break. This hike is at least half shaded. If you're running late, give Jenn a call at 210-859-8721.

Monday, August 9th at 9:45 am join Debbie and her two wee ones for a run along Stevens Creek Trail beginning from the Sleeper Trailhead in Mountain View. Bring a jogging stroller for kids not wanting to run or for infants. The path is a two-lane paved one. We'll encourage the running kids to tell us when to "go!" and run, and when to "stop!" and take walk breaks, in a sort of modified red-light/green-light/fartlek approach. We'll run up to the Yuba Trailhead or a bit beyond it, then double back. Meet at the water fountain at the Sleeper Trailhead. For more information about the trail or directions, see The Stevens Creek Trail Page. If you're running late, call Debbie at 650-776-1082.

Tuesday, August 10th at 4:30 pm join Pippa and Ruth for a Toddler Trek at Foothills Park in Palo Alto at 3300 Page Mill Road. We'll walk along the side of Lake Boronda to a bridge and back. Toddlers will be encouraged to walk, but you are welcome to bring transport if you like. The path is flat but gravelly - you may struggle with a normal stroller in places. Warning - you can access the lake at a few points - be ready to restrain your child or bring a change of clothing! If you are not a Palo Alto resident, please email Pippa (pippa@gawley.org) with your name so you can be put on the guest list. We'll meet at the car park just inside the gates. More info and directions: http://www.cityofpaloalto.org/depts/csd/parks_and_open_space/preserves_and_open_spaces/foothills_park.asp. If you're running late, give Pippa a call at 510-621-7471.

Thursday, August 12th at 4:30 pm join Debbie, little Max, and wee Holly for a Toddler Trek at Coal Mine Ridge/Portola Valley Ranch. This is a lovely, rustic hike, mainly through shaded woods. Toddlers will be encouraged to hike and explore on these narrow trails with new sights around every corner. For non-walking children, a baby carrier or backpack are recommended. We'll talk about Spanish Moss and look for animal trails, while we talk about how critters access water when the creek is so far below this hill. For information about the hike and directions, see The Coal Mine Ridge Webpage. Dogs not allowed. If you're running late, call Debbie at 650-776-1082.

Friday, August 13th at 9:45 am join Jenn W. and little Scott for a hike at Alviso Marina and Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge in Alviso. Come enjoy the range of birds, the Bay breezes, and see the train! The boardwalks here are great for toddlers. Meet at the Marina Parking lot. Bring a carrier or a jogging stroller for wee ones. We'll try to do the one-mile loop two or three times. Sorry, no dogs allowed. For directions or more information about the area, see The Alviso / Don Edwards Page. Call Jenn at 210-859-8721 if you're running late. This is a Santa Clara County Healthy Trails outing.

Monday, August 16th at 9:45 am join Debbie and her two wee ones for a run along The Bay Trail from Sunnyvale Baylands Park in Sunnyvale. We'll run up to the Gold Street intersection, then double back. Meet next to the recycled water test garden (take a left after entering the park). For more information or directions, see the Baylands Page. The park usually charges a fee for parking this time of year, but is often understaffed; you can park for free if there is no park staff there to take money. Join us for a picnic (bring your own snacks) and some low tide treasure hunting. We'll leave all treasures at the tide pools, but enjoy touching, seeing, smelling, and tasting the salt water spray! Don't forget your camera. It might feel like quite a distance to travel, but we'll shoot for low-commute hours to speed up the journey and low tide (predicted to be around 1:30), to made it worth your while to stay. This area is well known for its tide pools and wildlife. The hike is very short, but the beach visit will be quite worthwhile! Debbie and little Max will lead this hike. Dogs not allowed.
