Location

Wunderlich Park is located in Woodside, at 4040 Woodside Road. To get there from Hwy 280 take either (A) Hwy 84 / Woodside Road towards Woodside, or (B) Sand Hill Road towards Portola / Woodside, then turn right on Portola Road which becomes Woodside Road. The park is on the Southwest side of the road, near where Portola Road, La Honda Road, and Woodside Road intersect. For directions, use Google Map's Map of 4040 Woodside Road, Woodside, CA.

Attractions:

Wunderlich is almost entirely shady, a great place to retreat to in the summer.
Hike in the shelter of Douglas Fir and Redwood Trees, amongst ferns, mosses, and wildflowers.
There is are historical buildings here, including Folger Stable.
Woodside is prime equestrian country, so horse viewing is quite likely. A horse training field is next to the parking area, where you can watch horses and riders.
Wildlife includes butterflies, squirrels, and birds.
Wunderlich Trails offer lovely views of some of the most desirable properties in the Bay Area, nestled in the hills.

Limitations:

The hiking trails are not suitable for most strollers - too many roots and holes in the trail. See trail description below for more details.
No dogs allowed.
No bicycles allowed beyond the parking lot and paved areas.
Horses use many of these trails, so be prepared to see and smell some horse poop.
Beware of poison oak and ticks in this area.

Handicapped Access:

The area around the historical buildings is handicapped accessible, but the trails are too steep and rutted to be accessible.

Recommended routes:

Alambique Trail to Loop Trail: Icon Legend

Hike past the horse training area and historic buildings to enter the trail. It is a wide fire road in good condition, but beware of the occasional rut or root. Small-wheeled strollers and joggers without locking front wheels should avoid this route, as ruts run deep and occasionally all the way across the road, making navigation difficult. If you want to use a jogger, lock the front wheel and use the tether.

The road climbs gradually uphill for much of Alambique Trail. Turn right to follow Loop Trail back to the parking lot, turning right and following the access road for the last tenth of a mile. Total distance is about 1.25 miles.
